Athens, January 30th, 2006 –Starbucks friends and partners response to its invitation for the books and toys donation, in order to create children’s libraries and playgrounds at 4 state children medical institutions of the Attica region, was immediate and significant. To specify, Starbucks, with the help of its friends and customers, collected more than 7.350 Books and 10.050 toys! Through this initiative, thousands of children and their parents will have the opportunity to enjoy some creative and pleasant time during their stay at the medical institutions.
From November 4th 2005 to January 6th 2006, Starbucks customers had the opportunity to donate unwrapped books and toys for children, new or in a very good shape, at every store of the chain. Starbucks collected them and will in hence distribute them to each Hospital, based on its particular needs.
“I am overwhelmed by the tremendous generosity, regarding this initiative expressed by our customers and partners. The number of books and toys collected exceeded our expectations and proves the extent of the interest shown for contribution towards the society. We wish to express our gratitude to anyone who took part in this initiative, for their generous contribution because in this way we can actively participate in making the stay of the children at the hospital more pleasant”, as Mr. Mojtaba Akhbari, Managing Director of Marinopoulos Coffee Company, stated.
“Giving back to the community we operate in, is an integral part of Starbucks culture. This initiative will carry on and in the future we will create new opportunities of joy for the children which are hospitalized, enhancing in this way our ties with the local community’’, Mr. Akhbari adds.
The children’s books and toys donated by Starbucks’ customers will be given to the new children’s libraries and playgrounds which will be created, for the fist time, at the following medical institutions:
It must be noted that, since the public contribution in books & toys has been enormous and since the total number which has been collected will cover the needs of the 4 Medical Institutions, Starbucks has decided to distribute the toys & the books which will not be given to some of the hospital units mentioned above, to the Greek SOS Children’s Villages, to ELEPAP, as well as to orphanages, aiming in that way to utilize all the books & the toys and to offer more joy and fun to kids that are truly in need for.
